Contrary to what many of us might be led to believe, parenting does not come naturally to all people.
course will teach you that bringing up a baby requires emotional resilience that can be learned. Jumping into parenthood without much in the way of forethought or planning is like taking a leap into the unknown - as many new parents find to their cost.
The Preparenting Programme is based on the premise that time spent preparing to parent is time well spent. It’s possible for anyone to become a prepared parent - whether you’ve only just started to think about starting a family or are already a parent of a young baby. By learning to prepare mindfully, all parents can look forward to the more enjoyable and rewarding aspects of parenthood, rather than having to face the dreads, doubts and dilemmas that often arise along the way.
The terms ‘Preparents’ and ‘Unpreparents’ are used throughout the Programme for good reason. As abbreviations for ‘prepared parents’ and ‘unprepared parents’, they highlight the contrast that exists between those parents who prepare and those who do not. Unpreparents are likely to find parenthood a struggle. Preparents, on the other hand, will have the emotional resilience to make difficult decisions and face any challenges when they eventually choose to become parents.
The Programme focuses on three key phases of preparenting - choices, changes and challenges. All three are vital in raising awareness of what it really means to be a parent, including the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead. For those who participate, the benefits can be wide ranging, from gaining better self-awareness and self-confidence as a parent, to using that knowledge to gain the perspective needed to improve other aspects of family life.
Already successfully taught in schools, the Programme is now being offered as a unique parenting course for adults. Through small group discussions in a friendly, open atmosphere, it offers participants a unique opportunity to acquire the parenting skills that will allow you to reach your full potential.
